Harmful Algal Blooms: Contact Information

If you believe you have been exposed to a harmful algal bloom and are experiencing symptoms such as stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, fever, muscle weakness, or difficulty breathing, contact your physician or the Utah Poison Control Center at (800) 222-1222 immediately.

If your pet displays symptoms such as seizures, vomiting, or diarrhea after contact with surface water, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Report health effects to your local health department (LHD). See LHD map and contact list with key contacts for reporting health information.

Report a Bloom

If you suspect that you have seen a harmful algal bloom, please contact someone in your area listed on the Utah LHD and key contacts list. Also, Please call the 24-hour DEQ Spill Line: (801) 536-4123.

We encourage you to take digital photographs (close-up, and landscape showing extent and location of bloom) and send them as email attachments to your LHD contact and Ben Holcomb. If possible, please include an image from an online mapping application such as Google, Bing, or Yahoo Maps, with a marker at the bloom location. Also, please visit the Utah Department of Health’s website to help you determine whether you are observing a HAB.
