Monitoring for harmful algal blooms on November 7, 2022
Recreation water quality monitoring has ended for the season.
However, as of last sampling on 10/20 a HAB was observed at Otter Creek Reservoir. Know how to recognize the signs of a harmful algal bloom and recreate safely.
Monitoring will resume in summer 2023.
Monitoring for waterborne pathogens on October 20, 2022
GOOD NEWS: E. coli counts were measured below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds. Sampling did not indicate the presence of illness-causing waterborne pathogens.
Monitoring for harmful algal blooms on September 20, 2022
OK, but be careful: Samples collected the past two weeks have been below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds – that’s good news! Central Utah Health Department has removed the Warning Advisory from Otter Creek.
Low levels of harmful algae may still be present. Know how to recognize the signs of a harmful algal bloom and avoid areas of algae scum when recreating.

- Don’t drink the water
- Learn what this means for visiting safely
BE CAREFUL: Sampling on 9/14 observed the continued presence of harmful algae. Toxins may be present in the water.

BE CAREFUL: Sampling on 8/18 found concentrations of toxin-producing algae have again increased to levels above Utah Department of Health thresholds. Harmful toxins may be present in the water.

BE CAREFUL: Samples collected were all below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds – that’s a good thing! However, some toxin-producing algae species were present. BE CAREFUL: A visual survey today showed increasing signs of harmful algae around the reservoir. There may be dangerous toxins in the water. Samples will be collected and analyzed early next week. Check back here for results. In the meantime, we recommend:
