Update September 28, 2021 (HABs)
The Lake-wide HABs Warning Advisory for Utah Lake remains in place.
The DWQ HABs monitoring team re-visited Utah Lake on September 27th. Harmful algal blooms were observed at American Fork Marina, Utah State Park Marina and Lindon Marina and Beach. Harmful algal blooms were not observed near the Utah Lake State Park beaches. Samples were collected and results are pending.
Update September 15, 2021 (Waterborne Pathogens)
On September 15th, the DWQ Waterborne Pathogens monitoring team re-visited Sandy Beach. E. coli samples results were returned on September 16th which contained E. coli levels below the Warning Advisory threshold. Routine monitoring for waterborne pathogens will resume on a monthly basis.
Update September 15, 2021 (Waterborne Pathogens/HABs)
The Lake-wide HABs Warning Advisory for Utah Lake remains in place.
On September 13th, the DWQ Waterborne Pathogens monitoring team visited multiple sites across Utah Lake. Samples from Sandy Beach contained E. coli levels of 461 MPN/100mL which is above the Warning Advisory threshold. All other sites were below the threshold. DWQ re-visited Utah Lake on September 15th for follow-up resampling and results are pending.
Update August 27, 2021 (HABs)
The Lake-wide Warning Advisory for Utah Lake remains in place.
Toxigenic cyanobacteria cell density results for samples taken from throughout the lake on 8/23/2021 were delivered on 8/26/2021. They show toxigenic cyanobacteria cell counts at 100,000 to 500,000 cells/mL of Planktothrix at Lindon Marina, Lincoln Marina, Saratoga Springs Marina, American Fork Marina, Provo Bay, and near the State Park.
Update August 19, 2021 (Waterborne Pathogens)
On August 16th, DWQ Waterborne Pathogens monitoring team visited Utah Lake. Samples were returned on August 17th below the Warning Advisory threshold of 235 MPN. Routine monitoring will resume on a monthly basis.

The Danger Advisory for Lindon Marina has been downgraded to a Warning Advisory by Utah County Health Department.

A Danger Advisory indicates a high potential for acute poisoning and long-term illness from harmful algal bloom exposure. Recreators are advised not to swim, waterski, or boat in the marina.

A Danger Advisory has been issued for Lindon Marina by the Utah County Health Department.
A Danger Advisory indicates a high potential for acute poisoning and long-term illness from harmful algal bloom exposure. Recreators are advised not to swim, waterski, or boat in the marina.
Toxigenic cyanobacteria cell density results for samples taken from Lindon Marina on 7/19/2021 were delivered on 7/21/2021. They show toxigenic cyanobacteria cell counts at 78,299,390 cells/mL. Preliminary Cyanotoxin results were delivered on 7/22/21 and show the liver toxin microcystin at levels above 500 μg/L.

The lake-wide Warning Advisory for Utah Lake remains in place.
The DWQ HABs monitoring team re-visited Utah Lake On July 19th. Harmful algal blooms were observed at American Fork Marina and Lindon Marina and Beach. Harmful algal blooms were not observed near the Utah Lake State Park beaches. Samples were collected and results are pending.
July 16, 2021 (HABs)
A lake-wide Warning Advisory has been issued for Utah Lake by Utah County Health Department.
Toxigenic cyanobacteria cell density results for samples taken from the open water of Utah Lake on 7/13/2021 were delivered on 7/15/2021. They show toxigenic cyanobacteria cell counts at 1,183,364 cells/mL. Cell densities are above the UDWQ/UDOH recommended Warning Advisory threshold of 100,000 cells/mL.

A Warning Advisory has been issued for American Fork Beach in Utah Lake.
Toxigenic cyanobacteria cell density results for samples taken from American Fork Beach on 7/12/2021 were delivered on 7/14/2021. They show cell counts at 316,818 cells/mL of Dolichospermum, a known toxin producer. Cell densities are above the UDWQ/UDOH recommended Warning Advisory threshold of 100,000 cells/mL.

July 13, 2021 (HABs)
The Warning Advisory for Lincoln Beach and Provo Bay remains in place.
Toxigenic cyanobacteria cell density results for Lindon Beach, Provo Bay entrance, and American Fork Beach were delivered on 7/12/2021. At Lindon Beach cell counts are 5,739,083 cells/mL of Dolichospermum, a known toxin producer. At the Provo Bay entrance at ski dock cell counts are 166,943 cells/mL of majority Planktothrix. American Fork Beach cell densities were below UDWQ/UDOH recommended threshold of 100,000 cells/mL.
The DWQ HABs monitoring team re-visited Utah Lake on July 12th. Harmful algal blooms were observed at American Fork Beach, shore northeast of Spanish Fork River Inlet, Saratoga Springs Marina boat ramp, Lindon Beach, south of Lindon Marina near the south dike, Lindon Marina Beach, Provo Bay entrance, Lincoln Marina, and the beach north of the Lincoln Marina. Harmful algal blooms were not observed at Utah Lake State Park at Marina, west side of the dike near the south jetty, American Fork Marina near the boat ramp or at the Saratoga Springs Marina Picnic Area. More cyanotoxin and cell density samples were collected throughout the lake, and results are pending. DWQ will continue to watch Utah Lake closely and post updates.

Toxigenic cyanobacteria cell density results for Lincoln Beach were delivered on 7/12/2021. They show cell counts at 1,442,633 cells/mL of Dolichospermum, a known toxin producer. Cell densities are above the UDWQ/UDOH recommended Warning Advisory threshold of 100,000 cells/mL.

The Warning Advisory for Provo Bay at Utah Lake remains in place.
The DWQ HABs monitoring team re-visited Utah Lake on July 7th. Harmful algal blooms were observed at American Fork Beach, American Fork Marina near the boat ramp, Saratoga Springs Marina boat ramp and picnic area, Lindon Beach, south of Lindon Marina near the south dike, Lindon Marina Beach, north of the Utah Lake State Park near north dike, Provo Bay entrance, Lincoln Marina, and the beach north of the Lincoln Marina. Harmful algal blooms were not observed at Utah Lake State Park at Marina. Cyanotoxin and cell density samples were collected throughout the lake, and results are pending. DWQ will continue to watch Utah Lake closely and post updates.
July 2, 2021 (HABs)
The Warning Advisory for Provo Bay at Utah Lake remains in place.
Results for the toxigenic cyanobacteria cell density samples taken on June 29th were returned on July 1st. The sample from the north eastern shore of the Provo Bay Entrance contained a toxigenic cell density of 93,513 cell/mL of Dolichospermum, a known toxin producer. This is below but close to the UDWQ/UDOH recommended Warning Advisory threshold of 100,000 cells/mL. All other cyanotoxin and cell density samples from June 22nd are below this threshold.
Follow-up cyanotoxin and cell density samples were collected at Provo bay on July 1st, and results are pending.
Update June 30, 2021 (HABs)
The Warning Advisory for Provo Bay at Utah Lake remains in place.
The DWQ HABs monitoring team re-visited Utah Lake on June 29th. Harmful algal blooms were observed at American Fork Beach, American Fork Marina near the boat ramp, and Saratoga Springs Marina boat ramp. Harmful algal blooms were not observed at the south of Lindon Marina, Lindon Marina Beach NE of launch ramps, 50 meters north of Utah Lake State Park, Utah Lake State Park Marina, Lincoln Marina, north of Lincoln Marina at the beach, Saratoga Springs Marina Picnic Area, and near the shore northeast of Spanish Fork River Inlet. Cyanotoxin and cell density samples were collected throughout the lake, and results are pending. DWQ will continue to watch Utah Lake closely and post updates.
Update June 23, 2021 (HABs)
The Warning Advisory for Provo Bay in Utah Lake remains in place.
Toxigenic cyanobacteria cell density results from Utah Lake were returned. The sample from the north eastern shore of the Spanish Fork River inlet contained toxigenic cell density 175,055 cell/mL of Dolichospermum, a known toxin producer. This is above the UDWQ/UDOH recommended Warning Advisory threshold of 100,000 cells/mL. All other cyanotoxin and cell density samples from June 14th are below this threshold.
The DWQ HABs monitoring team re-visited Utah Lake on June 22nd. Harmful algal blooms were still observed at the Lindon Marina beach, northeast of the boat launch ramps. More cyanotoxin and cell density samples were collected, and results are pending. Harmful algal blooms were not observed at the State Park Marina, Lincoln Marina Beach, Saratoga Springs Marina boat ramp and picnic areas, and American Fork Marina. DWQ will continue to watch Utah Lake closely and post updates.
Update June 18, 2021 (Waterborne Pathogens)
On June 16th DWQ Waterborne Pathogens monitoring team revisited American Fork Beach at Utah Lake. Samples were returned on June 17th well below the Warning Advisory threshold of 235 MPN. Routine monitoring will resume on a monthly basis.
Update June 16, 2021 (Waterborne Pathogen)
On June 14th DWQ Waterborne Pathogen monitoring team visited Utah Lake. Samples near American Fork Beach contained E. coli levels at 1732.9 MPN, which is above UDWQ/UDOH recommended Warning Advisory threshold of 235 MPN. Per Waterborne Pathogen Advisory monitoring protocol, a 24-hour follow-up sample was taken on June 16th to confirm E. coli levels and results will be delivered on June 17th. Samples from near Lindon Marina Beach, Spanish Fork River Inlet, Saratoga Springs Marina, Utah Lake State Park Marina, Lincoln Marina, and American Fork Marina did not contain E. coli above recreational thresholds. Routine sampling for these areas will continue monthly.

The Warning Advisory for Provo Bay in Utah Lake remains in place.
The DWQ HABs monitoring team re-visited Utah Lake on June 14th. Harmful algal blooms were observed at the Provo Bay entrance, Lincoln Marina beach, Saratoga Springs Marina picnic area, American Fork Beach, American Fork Marina, Lindon Beach, Lincoln Marina, Utah Lake State Park Marina, and near the shore northeast of Spanish Fork inlet. Cyanotoxin and cell density samples were collected, and results are pending. Harmful algal blooms were not observed south or north of the Lincoln Marina. DWQ will continue to watch Utah Lake closely and post updates.

A Warning Advisory has been issued for Provo Bay in Utah Lake. Signs will be posted in the Provo Marina at Utah Lake State Park but the marina is not on advisory and is still safe for use.
Toxigenic cyanobacteria cell density results for Provo Bay were delivered on 6/11/2021. They show cell counts at 266,863 cells/mL of Dolichospermum, a known toxin producer. Cell densities are above the UDWQ/UDOH recommended Warning Advisory threshold of 100,000 cells/mL.

Harmful algal blooms were not observed at Lindon Beach, Lindon Marina Beach, South Point at North Dike, South Point Marina, Lincoln Beach Marina, north of Lincoln Beach Marina, Saratoga Springs Marina Boat Ramp, American Fork Beach, or American Fork Marina.

The Division of Water Quality and Utah Department of Health began monitoring for harmful algal blooms and waterborne pathogens on June 1st, 2021. As UDWQ and UDOH continue to visit and monitor waterbodies, updates will be posted.
