Monitoring for harmful algal blooms on June 28, 2022

Health Watch

A Health Watch is in effect for American Fork Marina, Lindon Marina, Utah Lake State Park, and Lincoln Marina

BE CAREFUL: Algal blooms have been observed at sites throughout the lake. This algae may be producing dangerous toxins. Sampling at Lincoln Marina on 6/22 detected toxin-producing algae at an elevated concentration (74,000 cells/mL) and low levels of toxins (1.4 ug/L). Sampling at American Fork Marina, Lindon Marina, and Utah Lake State Park showed elevated algal cell concentrations, but low concentrations of toxin-producing algae.

Additional samples were collected on 6/27/2022 and results from those will be shared on this page. Under a health watch, we recommend:

Monitoring for harmful algal blooms on June 22, 2022

BE CAREFUL: Our monitoring team saw visible signs of a harmful algal bloom. There could be algae in the water producing dangerous toxins. We collected samples and results are pending. Check back for updates. In the meantime, we recommend:

Sites HABs observed: American Fork Marina, Lindon Marina, Utah Lake State Park, Lincoln Marina

Monitoring for harmful algal blooms on June 8, 2022

OK, but be careful: Samples collected were all below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds – that’s a good thing! However, some toxin-producing algae species were present. Know how to recognize the sings of a harmful algal bloom and avoid areas of algae scum when recreating.

Sites Sampled: Lindon Marina, Lincoln Marina, Provo State Park, Provo Bay

Monitoring for Waterborne Pathogens on May 23, 2022

Utah Lake State Park Marina:

GOOD NEWS: E. coli counts were measured below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds. Sampling did not indicate the presence of illness-causing waterborne pathogens.

The Division of Water Quality and the Utah Department of Health will monitor this site for waterborne pathogens and harmful algal blooms this summer, beginning in June 2022. We will share updates here.
