Monitoring for harmful algal blooms on November 22, 2022
Recreation water quality monitoring has ended for the season. Utah County Health Department has removed the Warning Advisories on Utah Lake.
Visual observations on 11/18 did not indicate the presence of harmful algae. Know how to recognize the signs of a harmful algal bloom and recreate safely.

BE CAREFUL: Monitoring at Utah Lake on 10/17 indicated high levels of toxin were present at some areas in the waterbody. Satellite imagery from 11/5 indicates harmful algae may still be present along shorelines, in marinas, and in the southern part of the lake.
Additional sampling updates will not be available until monitoring resumes in summer 2023. Recreators are encouraged to use caution and know how to recognize the signs of a harmful algal bloom.

Sampling at Lincoln Marina on 6/27 detected high concentrations of toxin-producing algae (370,000 cells/mL) and dangerous levels of toxins (123 ug/L of microcystin). Sampling on 6/22 at American Fork Marina, Lindon Marina, and Utah Lake State Park showed elevated algal cell concentrations, but low concentrations of toxin-producing algae.

Sampling at American Fork Marina, Lindon Marina, and Utah Lake State Park showed elevated algal cell concentrations, but low concentrations of toxin-producing algae.

Utah Lake State Park Marina:
GOOD NEWS: E. coli counts were measured below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds. Sampling did not indicate the presence of illness-causing waterborne pathogens.
The Division of Water Quality and the Utah Department of Health will monitor this site for waterborne pathogens and harmful algal blooms this summer, beginning in June 2022. We will share updates here.
