Update October 24, 2018

The Division of Water Quality (DWQ) collected samples at the Echo Reservoir Boat Launch on September 17, 2018, after observing a bloom at this location. Cyanobacteria resembling grass clippings were clumped together on top of and within the water.

Cyanobacteria cell-count concentrations were 2,407,640 cells per milliliter (cells/ml), which exceeded the recreation health-based threshold for a warning Advisory. Toxin strip tests were negative for both anatoxin-a and microcystin.

Update September 10, 2018

The Division of Water Quality (DWQ) visited Echo Reservoir on September 7, 2018, and observed green cyanobacteria resembling grass clippings in masses along the shoreline northwest of the boat ramp. The bloom was small and mostly confined to the shoreline. Evidence of prior bloom events could be seen above the current water line, which appears to have dropped approximately 10 feet since the last monitoring visit. DWQ collected samples for further lab analysis.
