Phase 2: Criteria Development:
Utah Lake Water Quality Study

Utah Lake Lincoln Marina

The Steering Committee and Science Panel will evaluate the factors that impact the lake’s designated beneficial uses, including the factors that lead to harmful algal blooms on Utah Lake, during Phase 2 of the Study. This evaluation will guide additional research needed to address data gaps and develop site-specific numeric criteria for phosphorus and lake that are protective of existing uses in the lake, including aquatic life and recreation.

The Science Panel is charged with guiding the development of site-specific nitrogen and phosphorus criteria. The Science panel will develop a scientifically-defensible approach for establishing criteria, recommend studies and guide research activities to fill knowledge gaps, review and interpret study results, and ultimately recommend science-based criteria to the Steering Committee.
