- Your business must apply and be approved to participate (see application steps below). Purchases made prior to approval are not eligible.
- Your business must agree to the Terms and Conditions of the program.
How it works
Step 1: Submit a quick eligibility application
Fill out a quick 15-minute eligibility application to ensure your business qualifies for the program. We’ll let you know if you are approved.
We need to know:
- Your business contact information
- Your business license information
- Your business operational information
Your application must be reviewed and approved by DAQ to proceed to the next steps.
Step 2: After approval, recycle old gas-powered equipment
- Drain all the gas and oil from your old equipment. Take the oil to a collection center (find one at UsedOil.utah.gov).
- Bring your old equipment to one of the eligible recycling centers (read the instructions for each location here).
- Take a picture at the facility: Snap a picture of your equipment at the facility BEFORE you scrap. The facility will direct you to where this photo should be taken (read the instructions for each location here).
- Get your Certificate of Recycling: A staff member will provide you with a Certificate of Recycling. Fill out the form with your equipment information, and then the recycling staff will provide a stamp of approval. Keep the completed Certificate of Recycling AFTER you scrap. It will be required for reimbursement (read the instructions for each location here).
- Keep your documents: You will need them for reimbursement! In Step 4, you will submit both the photo of the old equipment and a digital copy of the completed Certificate of Recycling.
Step 3: After approval, purchase new electric equipment
- Go to a physical store near you (no online or secondhand) to purchase new eligible electric equipment.
- Purchase hand-held electric equipment, including:
- string trimmers
- leaf blowers
- chainsaws
- edgers
- hedgers
- Batteries and chargers (only allowed in addition to any of the above)
- No lawnmowers
- Keep your itemized receipt from the store—you will need it for reimbursement!
NOTE: ALL REBATE PURCHASES ARE FINAL.
Step 4: Upload the required documents to start the reimbursement process
After you have recycled the old gas-powered equipment and purchased the new electric equipment, submit your reimbursement form along with all required documentation.
You will need to upload:
- Application ID from original submission confirmation
- Recycling documentation:
- Copy of completed Certificate of Recycling
- Photo of the recycled equipment at the recycling facility
- Purchase documentation:
- Copy of a valid itemized receipt with the store name, date, equipment description, and price (see an example receipt here)
- New equipment serial number(s)
We will start reviewing submitted documents within 90 days.
Step 5: Reimbursement issued
Once we review and approve your reimbursement submission, we’ll issue a check by mail to the address you provided.
