Mercury Collection Events

Mercury can be found in older household items and may need special handling if it is spilled or disposed of improperly. This page provides information about mercury collection events and links to disposal and spill‑reporting resources.

Grab a free bucket ahead of the events for safe transport! Items that won't fit in the bucket won't be accepted.

Buckets are available before the collection events at these locations during normal business hours.

Before the event, pick up a free 5-gallon bucket with a lid at one of the locations listed above. The bucket is intended to help you transport mercury-containing items safely.

Only household mercury items that can fit into the 5-gallon bucket will be accepted. Do not bring industrial or commercial quantities, unknown chemicals, radioactive materials, or explosives.

Place items in the bucket: Ensure all mercury-containing items such as
thermometers, thermostats, or small containers of liquid mercury are
placed inside the 5-gallon bucket.
Use stabilizing material: Use cushioning such as bubble wrap and
absorbent material such as vermiculite or cat litter within the bucket to
prevent glass breakage or container rupture during transport and ensure
that any spilt material is absorbed.
Secure the lid: Ensure the lid is tightly and securely fastened to the bucket
before leaving your home.
