Department of Environmental Quality

Local Health Departments and District Engineers

To provide responsive, local support across the state, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) works closely with Utah’s local health departments. Use this page to find your DEQ District Engineer or your county’s Local Health Department.

DEQ District Engineers

Our District Engineers are DEQ’s dedicated, on-the-ground representatives across Utah, providing local support to communities, businesses, and local health departments. They are often the best first point of contact for a wide range of local and regional environmental issues.

You should contact your District Engineer for assistance with:

  • Local complaints: Initial reporting and questions about air, water, or waste concerns in your area.
  • Permitting and regulations: Questions about permitting for water, wastewater, air, and solid waste, especially for new or small businesses.
  • Compliance assistance: Helping businesses and public water or wastewater systems understand and meet environmental requirements.
  • Local government coordination: Serving as a direct link between local governments and DEQ’s main offices.
