Documents from the data gathering and characterization phase (2015 thru 2017) summarize efforts to identify, acquire, and summarize relevant environmental data and publications to develop a foundational understanding of water quality to inform Phase 2 and Phase 3.
Phase 2 Scope & Charge
Phase 2 of the ULWQS is guided by a series of charges questions developed by Steering Committee and Science Panel.
Numeric Nutrient Criteria Framework
The Numeric Nutrient Criteria Framework describes the technical approach that the Steering Committee and Science Panel will employ to develop nutrient criteria for Utah Lake. The Framework is supported by a series of conceptual diagrams that describes the Science Panel’s current understanding of how the lake functions, a process for characterizing and communicating uncertainty, and a set of management goals developed by the ULWQS Steering Committee.
Strategic Research Plan
The Strategic Research Plan identifies knowledge gaps that limit the Science Panel’s ability to response to the Steering Committee Initial Charge and develop defensible nutrient criteria and prioritizes research, data collection, and analytical activities to fill the gaps.
Research Projects
These documents represent a collection of research and analytical projects developed by the Utah Lake Science Panel and project partners as described in the Strategic Research Plan.
Atmospheric Deposition
Atmospheric Deposition has been identified as potentially important source of nutrients to Utah Lake. This collection of documents describes a research project directed by the Wasatch Front Water Quality Council and the Science Panel’s engagement in the project.
Model Development
A set of water quality and hydrologic computer models are being developed to simulate historic, current, and future conditions of Utah Lake the contributing watershed. These models will be an important tool for identifying protective nutrient endpoints and assist decision makers with implementation planning.
The objective of Phase 3 is to develop guidance and planning strategies for implementing the nutrient criteria recommendation resulting from Phase 2. This phase will include identification and evaluation of implementation alternatives, selection of alternatives, and evaluation of economic and technical feasibility.
