Day 9 Conserve Water:
Earth Day

April 18

There are lots of ways you can conserve water both inside and outside your home.

Inside your home

  • Install low-flow shower heads and low-flush toilets
  • Don’t run the water when you brush your teeth
  • Fill the sink up when doing dishes rather than letting the water run
  • Take showers rather than baths
  • Water your plants with the water left over from cooking pasta or vegetables
  • Wash only full loads in your dishwasher and washing machine
  • Repair leaks quickly

Outside your home

  • Adjust your sprinklers so they don’t water the cement
  • Use a broom to clean your driveway, not a hose
  • Check your faucets for leaks
  • Use drip irrigation for your garden and landscaping
  • Water your lawn only in the early morning or evening
  • Test your soil for moisture by putting a screwdriver into the ground—if it goes in easily, don’t water
  • Sign up for a free water check to analyze the efficiency of your automated sprinkling system
