There are lots of ways you can conserve water both inside and outside your home.
Inside your home
- Install low-flow shower heads and low-flush toilets
- Don’t run the water when you brush your teeth
- Fill the sink up when doing dishes rather than letting the water run
- Take showers rather than baths
- Water your plants with the water left over from cooking pasta or vegetables
- Wash only full loads in your dishwasher and washing machine
- Repair leaks quickly
Outside your home
- Adjust your sprinklers so they don’t water the cement
- Use a broom to clean your driveway, not a hose
- Check your faucets for leaks
- Use drip irrigation for your garden and landscaping
- Water your lawn only in the early morning or evening
- Test your soil for moisture by putting a screwdriver into the ground—if it goes in easily, don’t water
- Sign up for a free water check to analyze the efficiency of your automated sprinkling system
