DEQ has submitted to the Legislative Management Committee its report on the Five-Year Review of Financial Assurance and Perpetual Care of Commercial Hazardous Waste and Radioactive Waste Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities.
In 2005, the Utah Legislature passed a bill requiring both the Solid and Hazardous Waste Control Board and the Radiation Control Board to prepare and submit a report evaluating the adequacy of funding and financial assurances provided for the closure, post-closure, and perpetual care and maintenance of commercial hazardous waste and radioactive waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities. The initial report was completed in 2006. Every five years an updated evaluation is to be completed by both Boards and submitted jointly by October 1 to the Legislative Management Committee. The 2011 report is available for review online (4 MB).
