The Utah Division of Air Quality (DAQ) is hosting a series of meetings to highlight vehicle trip reduction strategies and other mobile-related emissions measures that companies can implement to reduce their contribution to poor air quality, provide benefits to their employees, and reduce company costs associated with transportation. Air quality has become a major concern for Utahans and Utah policy makers, particularly with regard to Utah’s high particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone levels. Since vehicles are responsible for the majority of the ozone and PM2.5 in Utah, we are pleased that many companies throughout the State are taking voluntary steps to reduce their vehicle emissions. It is DAQ’s hope that this EBTR series will serve as a way to help employers identify vehicle emission reduction strategies that work for their companies.

January 11, 2017 Symposium
On January 11, to kick off the series of employer-based trip reduction (EBTR) meetings, the DAQ hosted an EBTR Symposium where several employers shared some of the strategies they have used to reduce vehicle emissions. Over 60 people attended both in person and through an on-line webinar. In the spirit of EBTR strategies, all future meetings in the EBTR series will be held exclusively through webinars and will focus on specific topics suggested by EBTR participants. Future meetings might include presentations from experts on van pools, active transportation options, or telecommuting and teleconferencing tools and policies.
