October 31, 2023: Waterborne pathogen (E. coli)  monitoring update

Recreational monitoring has ended for the season. Monitoring will resume in summer 2024. Waterborne pathogens may still arise at this waterbody. Know what to look for and check before recreating.


October 18, 2023: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

GOOD NEWS: Samples from Ken’s Lake have been below recreational advisory threshold levels for the past two weeks. Harmful algae was not observed this week. Learn more about harmful algal blooms.

BE CAREFUL: Sampling indicates that harmful algae is present at Ken’s Lake, but still in low concentrations. Recreators should avoid areas with visible algae and use caution.

BE CAREFUL: Sampling indicates that harmful algae is still present at Ken’s Lake, but at lower levels than sampled last week. Conditions may change rapidly. Recreators should avoid areas with visible algae and use caution.

BE CAREFUL: Samples from 9/6 confirm the presence of a harmful algal bloom at Ken’s Lake. There may be algae in the water producing dangerous toxins. Recreators should avoid areas with visible algae and use caution.

BE CAREFUL: Visible signs of a harmful algal bloom were observed at Ken’s Lake. There could be algae in the water producing dangerous toxins. We collected samples and results are pending. Check back here for updates.
