BE CAREFUL: A harmful algal bloom is present at Panguitch Lake. Algae in the water may be producing dangerous toxins that can make humans and animals sick.
The Forest Service has posted a WARNING ADVISORY. This advisory will remain in place until the expected lake freeze later this year.
If you visit Paguitch Lake:
- Do not swim or water ski
- Avoid areas of algae when boating
- Clean fish well and discard guts
- Keep animals away
- Don’t drink the water

BE CAREFUL: A harmful algal bloom is present at Panguitch Lake. Sampling on 7/25 confirms that algae in the water is producing dangerous toxins that can make humans and animals sick. Algae and toxin concentrations are above Utah Department of Health and Human Services Recreational thresholds for a Warning Advisory, but no formal advisory has been issued.
Under these conditions, we recommend visitors to Panguitch Lake:
- Do not swim or water ski
- Avoid areas of algae when boating
- Clean fish well and discard guts
- Keep animals away
- Don’t drink the water
- Know how to recognize a harmful algal bloom
