November 20, 2023: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

Recreational monitoring has ended for the season. Monitoring will resume in summer 2024. Waterborne pathogen or harmful algal bloom concerns may still arise at this waterbody. Know what to look for and check before recreating.


October 30, 2023: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

BE CAREFUL: A harmful algal bloom is present at Panguitch Lake. Algae in the water may be producing dangerous toxins that can make humans and animals sick. 

The Forest Service has posted a WARNING ADVISORY. This advisory will remain in place until the expected lake freeze later this year.

July 28, 2023: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

BE CAREFUL: A harmful algal bloom is present at Panguitch Lake. Sampling on 7/25 confirms that algae in the water is producing dangerous toxins that can make humans and animals sick. Algae and toxin concentrations are above Utah Department of Health and Human Services Recreational thresholds for a Warning Advisory, but no formal advisory has been issued
