Rockport Reservoir Recreational Monitoring

Updates:

November 1, 2024: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

Recreational water quality monitoring has ended for the season. Monitoring will resume in summer 2025. A harmful algal bloom may still be present at this waterbody. Know what to look for and check before recreating.


October 21, 2024: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

BE CAREFUL: Conditions were much improved when the monitoring team visited Rockport Reservoir. This advisory is expected to be removed when monitoring season ends on Oct. 31.

In the meantime, Summit County Health Department has issued a WARNING ADVISORY. 

If you visit Rockport Reservoir:


October 8, 2024: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

BE CAREFUL: A harmful algal bloom is present in areas of Rockport Reservoir. Algae in the water may be producing dangerous toxins that can make humans and animals sick. 

Summit County Health Department has issued a WARNING ADVISORY. 

If you visit Rockport Reservoir:


September 23, 2024: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

BE CAREFUL: A harmful algal bloom was observed at Rockport Reservoir. Algae in the water may be producing dangerous toxins. Samples will be collected later this week and results will be posted next week (week of September 30th). 

In the meantime we recommend:


September 17, 2024: Waterborne pathogen (E. coli) monitoring update

GOOD NEWS: E. coli counts were measured below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds. Sampling suggests that the water is safe from harmful bacteria and viruses.

Site sampled: Highland picnic area, western beach at SR32.


September 4, 2024: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

GOOD NEWS: Our monitoring team did not see visible signs of a harmful algal bloom. Learn more about harmful algal blooms.

Site visited: Highland picnic area, western beach at SR32. 


August 12, 2024: Waterborne pathogen (E. coli) & HAB monitoring update

GOOD NEWS: E. coli counts were measured below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds. Sampling suggests that the water is safe from harmful bacteria and viruses. No signs of harmful algae were observed.

Sites sampled: Highland picnic area, pinery picnic area, western beach at SR32 MP 25.9, west end of dam.
