Sand Hollow Reservoir is located approximately 9 miles west of Hurricane in Washington County. DEQ’s recreational water quality monitoring checks for two health concerns: Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and Waterborne Pathogens (E. coli). Find the most recent monitoring information below.

January 6, 2026: Harmful algae mats monitoring update

GOOD NEWS: Harmful algae was not observed at Sand Hollow Reservoir.

Our normal monitoring season has ended, and future monitoring may be sporadic until June 2026. Know how to recognize harmful algae and check before recreating.


December 17, 2025: Harmful algae mats monitoring update

CHECK FIRST: Isolated areas of harmful algae mats and harmful algal blooms may be present at Sand Hollow Reservoir. Direct contact with or ingestion of harmful algae can make humans and animals sick. Avoid harmful algae while you recreate.
