  • Do not swim or water ski
  • Avoid areas of algae when boating
  • Keep animals away
  • Do not drink the water
  • Clean fish well and discard guts

July 12, 2024: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update

BE CAREFUL: A harmful algal bloom is present at Piute Reservoir. Algae in the water may be producing dangerous toxins that can make humans and animals sick. 

The Central Utah Health Department has issued a WARNING ADVISORY.

BE CAREFUL: Our monitoring team saw a harmful algal bloom at Piute Reservoir. There could be algae in the water producing dangerous toxins. We collected samples and results are pending. Check back here for updates.

June 24, 2024: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update 

OK, but be careful: Sample results from June 24th indicate low levels of harmful algae at locations around Piute Reservoir. Know what to look out for and avoid visible algae when recreating.

OK, but be careful: Sample results from June 12th indicate low levels of harmful algae at locations around Piute Reservoir. Know what to look out for and avoid visible algae when recreating.

Do not swim or water ski in areas of algae


May 21, 2024: Waterborne pathogen (E. coli) monitoring update 

GOOD NEWS: E. coli counts were measured below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds. Sampling suggests that the water is safe from harmful bacteria and viruses.
