Recreational monitoring has ended for the season. Monitoring will resume in summer 2024. A harmful algal bloom may still be present at this waterbody. Know what to look for and check before recreating.

BE CAREFUL: A harmful algal bloom is present at The Pond at Willard Bay. Algae in the water may be producing dangerous toxins that can make humans and animals sick.
Currently, Willard Bay State Park has closed The Pond to recreation.

August 31, 2023: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update
BE CAREFUL: Our monitoring team saw visible signs of a harmful algal bloom at The Pond at Willard Bay. There could be algae in the water or on the shoreline producing dangerous toxins.
If you visit The Pond we recommend:
- Do not swim or wade in areas of algae
- Avoid areas of algae when boating
- Clean fish well and discard guts
- Keep animals away
- Don’t drink the water
- Know how to recognize a harmful algal bloom
August 17, 2023: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update
OK, but be careful: Our monitoring team saw a small area of harmful algae at Willard Pond.
We collected samples and results are pending. Check back here for updates. In the meantime, know how to recognize a harmful algal bloom, and avoid areas of algae when recreating.
July 11, 2023: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update
GOOD NEWS: Samples from The Pond over the past two weeks do not show any evidence of a harmful algal bloom.
Small amounts of benthic algae mats may be present near the shoreline. These mats can be dangerous to humans and animals. Dogs and children should be kept away from this growth.
June 30, 2023: Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring update
BE CAREFUL: High levels of harmful algae were present in the sample collected at Willard Pond on 6/26. We will continue to monitor the pond and post updates here next week.
If you visit Willard Pond, we recommend:
- Do not swim in areas of algae

May 23, 2023: Waterborne pathogen (E. coli) monitoring update
GOOD NEWS: E. coli counts were measured below Utah Department of Health recreational thresholds. Sampling suggests that the water is safe from harmful bacteria and viruses.
